  Amandawe Needlework

These fabulous needlework pictures are created by the members of the Amandawe Sewing Group. This group is one of the projects run by the UVHA Association in the UGU district of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Association focuses on providing care and support to some of the poorest and least accessible communities in rural KwaZulu-Natal.

The programmes managed by the Association promote an integrated response to the impact of HIV/AIDS. They address both preventive and curative needs; and respond to the physical, social and psychological impacts of HIV/AIDS. Recognising the scale of the impact of the disease, and the shortage of resources, the programmes aim to harness the skills and resources found within target communities.

The embroideries created by the Amandawe Sewing Group are sold locally in South Africa, as well as in America where they are made into bags and sold through a support group there.  For details on this please have a look at www.thebagofhope.com

In the UK these are framed and sold as pictures through the Energy Medicine Foundation.

These framed embroideries are on display on the wall of Purple Chilli, in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria www.purplechilli-bowness.co.uk

or contact Fiona Adams on fionajoy@energymedicinefoundation.co.uk

Framed pictures are sold at a rate of £35-£45 per piece - dependant on size & detail.
