Think Global, Act Local
With our market resources and ecconomy becomming more and more global, we know that every action we take locally, has an effect somewhere else in the world. From clothes bought locally which are produced in China, to vegetables at our local supermarket grown in Kenya - the cost to us all is not just the price marked on the item, but the long term implications of carbon footprinting, climate change and maintaining local community markets - to name only the tip of an iceberg. It's something to be aware of - and, within this, raises questions for ourselves about the choices we each make as consumers and our desire to live with a low impact, within our local communities.
Although we are based in the beautiful Lake District in England, the Energy Medicine Foundation works in other countries - simply doing the same as what we do in the UK and sharing what we know.
In South Africa - Morag Leiper's home country, there are several projects supported by us in the Umkomaas - Scottburgh area on the South Coast. The main one is at Amandawe where we support the sewing group, assist with permaculture ideas and practicalities and raise awareness by networking. This project is run by UVHAA - Umdoni & Vulamehlo HIV / AIDS Association.
Morag has also been working in the Umkomaas area as a holistic therapist, teaching permaculture basics in local schools, helping set up community gardens, working towards setting up soup kitchens, teaching energetic awareness and networking within the local community. Fiona Adams has worked in the area as a holistic therapist and volunteered on some of the projects, along with passing on simple healing techniques to be used by the wider community.
James Ellwood has facilitated Tree Awareness in Denmark and also taught Reiki and energetic awareness there along with Morag.
In 2010 we will also be working in Iceland, Scotland....
We network wherever we are in the world and will travel wherever we are required..
